Barcelona T'estimo

Un homenatge a Barcelona. Un homenaje a Barcelona. A homage to Barcelona.

This song reminds me of Barcelona because I heard it for the first time being covered by an indie cantautor from Barna. The concert was at Casa Vallcarca, which happens to be my friends house. They host intimate/ private concerts every month were very indie artists will play.

The singer played this song from Astrud “Minusvalía” which to me is one of the most honest blunt songs I’ve ever heard.

será veritat que La Rambla és nostra? A mi ensembla que es més de guiris. I wonder what the guys from Time Out BCN have found on Las Ramblas that is not already exploited.

This song reminds me of: Barcelona en Maig, el Antic Teatre, el Primavera Sound.

I had the pleasure to hear Eduardo Galeano on this same day this video was filmed. He talked at the Generalitat de Catalunya about fútbol and democracy. But his best speech was the one he gave to the indignados at Plaça Catalunya.

Ja faig un any!!! It’s been a year since thousands of Spanish people of all ages decided to claim the square and demand for REAL DEMOCRACY. On May 12th they decided to take the squares again, Sol and Catalunya, to ensure that the movement is not over. I still get goosebumps when I think of the energy you will feel when you were in the plaça, we were from different backgrounds but we were there to proof that another world is possible. We made them listen. The police responded with brutality, and even a friend from Radio Contrabanda (Nómadas sin Tópico) was a victim of police brutality. But that made us even stronger.
Feliç Anniversari indignats !!!

Barcelona és una merda

Barcelona es una merda

Barcelona és una merda is a book from Òscar Broc with pictures by Tanit Plana

I’ve always said that Barcelona bathrooms are SHIT..and yes you may take that literally. Òscar Broc has systematically describes the architectural and ornamental characteristics of a great deal of toilets in Barcelona. The result might be scary but at the same time I can’t wait to find out.

On La Diada de Sant Jordi! Barcelona’s streets are covered in red and yellow. You can see the Catalan flag everywhere… buses, balconies, store fronts. Sant Jordi is like the catalan version of Valentine’s day, traditionally men give women roses and women give men books.
Las ramblas and Plaça Catalunya gets filled with rose and book vendors. Even though is fun to walk the streets of Barcelona on Sant Jordi, they are so packed that it can be a bit overwhelming. I find Sant Jordi the perfect day to actually head to Tibidabo, or the north side of the city where the celebrations are more laid-back. In 2010 me and Iraide decided to celebrate it at Sala B, a bit posh for our taste but it was free so we headed there with rose in hand.

Espardanyas (espadrilles)
As it is getting warmer in NYC, I dusted off my bright pink espardanyas I got in Barna last summer. As an adopted New Yorker I always tend to almost sprint thru the streets of New York City, but something amazing happened when I put on my espardanyas, I just couldn’t walk fast. All the sudden is like I’m on Barcelona’s pace of life, just strolling thru the streets, enjoying the sun, making eye contact, taking it easy.
